“Isla Rose” (ex Eila Rose) is a 14ton Gauntlet built by Berthon of Lyminton in 1949. She has been in my family for many decades and this blog is a place to record her adventures and her maintenance work. Much of the skills and knowlage for looking after classic boats is hard to come by and I find myself trawling the internet looking for techniques, tools, materials and exemples of how to do a particular task. I am not a boat builder or shipwright and although I work in the marine industry this page shows my personal trials and experiments not a professional opinion. I try to keep Isla Rose in good order but budget does not always allow handing her over to a professional yard so she is an intensive hobby offering a platform for continually learning new (mostly historical!) skills.
I hope I create an interesting record of my yacht and save some of you a few hours hear and there by learning from my mistakes.
